Treats 4 ME!

So I probably spent a little too much on it...okay, definately spent too much on it but I just HAD to have it. One of ClipperStreet Scrapbook Company's branches is closing down and they are gutting the place - so sad :< Anyhow, I picked up this 12x12 paper rack last night and am LOVING how all my great paper looks. So organized! Ahhh... its the little things. Now just have to find a place for it!

Look at all that AWESOME paper to inspire me!!

New Challenge Blog

Ever get Scrapper's Block? Do you just sit there for what seems like FOREVER and stare blankly at your photos, papers, embellies and just cannot muster up a single creative idea? Well, take a stroll over to a newly created challenge blog Scrapper's Block? for some fabulous ideas and challenges to get your brain in the game!

This week's challenge was to create a layout without using any patterned paper. A tough one for SURE! Here's my take...

I used some awesome paper from Chocolate Box where one side is brown and the other side is a different colour when you rip it, tear it, distress it, etc. So cool! I put a 8x8 paper stack behind the paper and sanded so that the blue square came through, ripped the middle to showcase the awesome blue, ripped the edges, added some pink paislee chipboard stickers, some shells we found at the beach and viola! The journalling reads: During our vacation at Tigh-na-Mara, you said that your favourite part was searching for treasures with mom on the beach. I will cherish this moment and all the wonderful times we share together - always.

I have to admit that due to the fact that I have 3 wee ones under the age of 5 I must use my scrap time wisely SO... I also found a way to slide this layout into another challenge over at Scrapping out LOUD! Their challenge for the week was to use a colour that you wouldn't normally use. For me, chocolate brown was the winner. Love the colour, never seem to use it as my dominant hue. Anyhow, I also managed to tie it in with their sketch of the week and word of the week - which was cherish!

Design Team Challenge

Well, I think I must have applied for 3 or 4 design teams last week and have madly been trying to submit my work. In addition, I have taken it upon myself to attempt a few blog challenges here and there (no biggie you say - but with 3 kids under the age of 5, finding more than 30 consecutive minutes to scrap is a true feat!). Unfortunately, I did not make at least one of these teams. (sniff) Must not get discouraged! Onwards and upwards! One of the other companies I am interested in, requires their applicants to "think up your own unique challenge and create a 12x12 layout based on that challenge".

The challenge I proposed for this design team was to make your layout's dominant colours black and white. I did a TON of cutout work on this! There is also a hidden pull-tab that reads: There's about 10 loads of laundry waiting to be done, the house needs vaccuming, my scrapbook page is calling, my hair is dirty and I REALLY need a shower, I should be at the gym, your sister's diaper needs changing, your brother's hands need wiping, dinner STILL isn't ready... but I'm right where I belong. Here, with you, on April 27, 2009.

Hand in Hand

A layout I did for Father's day for my hubby (he was jealous that I did one for my dad and not him). This photo was taken while we were on vacation recently on Vancouver Island. On our way to the beach and the sun was peeking through the clouds just perfectly. Reads: To Love and be Loved is to Feel the Sun From Both Sides. Thought it was neat how my 'sons' are on both sides of my husband.

TGIF

So Happy Together - Most of the Time

Hi all! So glad it is finally Friday! Well, on to new ventures indeed. I have decided to apply for a Design Team (or two)! I was thinking to myself, ultimately, what do I want to do with my Scrapbooking? Obviously, it must be enjoyable, must be relaxing and must be 'me' time, but aside from that, my goals are to get my layouts published, work for fantastic design teams and ultimately get paid to do what I do. Since I have had my first layout published (will be in June) YEA! I will now focuss on the next goal - get hired onto a fabulous design team to practice, inspire others and have fun. Wish me luck!

Here is a layout I did for a Design Team call - didn't really like how it turned out, out of my style comfort zone, so I sent in another one. It was suppose to look like the sketch below... kinda?? Anyhow, the other layout I did can't be published until I hear one way or another whether or not I made the team... until then, here's my latest. Happy Day!

Title: So Happy Together - Most of the Time. A layout I did of my 2 kids - caught them candidly sharing a few smiles, giggles and kisses. So sweet - most of the time!! Journalling reads: Quinn with his little sis, whom he adores to pieces. Can always make her smile. Kisses!

Happy Earth Day!

This is a layout I did of my son for earth day. I used cardboard as well as a newsclipping from today's paper. I used as little paper as possible as well as some scraps I had leftover. I sanded the edges of the photos, distressed and inked just about everything! The brad is from Stampin' Up's Build a brad series. I put in the recycling symbol as I felt it fit well considering the theme! The Journalling reads: "We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children".

Materials Used: Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Vintage Photo, Fiskars 12in portable trimmer, making memories edge distressor, Tim Holtz grungeboard, making memories tiny alpha letters in sabrina, basic grey paper in their ambrosia collection, rind and in their wassail collection, turtle dove.
